DC Bilingual is a public charter school located in Washington, DC, that focuses on teaching children English and Spanish. The 27,000-square-foot addition was an increase of 55% over the existing building and provided the students with new classrooms, a renovated gym, updated art and music spaces, and new science and computer labs. Early on, the FBH project team focused on getting ahead and highly leveraged the use of BIM coordination and the fab shop. Working around school schedules, students and COVID protocols to integrate the new building with an existing building were just some of the coordination obstacles that were overcome. The general contractor relied heavily on FBH to help lead the project and was very vocal about our team’s role in the project’s success.
