The Reed School
The Reed School, also called the Cardinal Elementary School, is a 4 story tall addition (approximately 92,000 square feet) and renovation ( approximately 38,000 square feet) of an existing special needs elementary school. The project started with selective demolition of the existing school including separating the power and fire alarm systems from the existing library. Working around the existing building and keeping it open during construction made for a complex project and some difficult challenges. The school will house students from kindergarten all the way to 5th grade. F. B. Harding installed a new natural gas generator, new LED site lighting, several interior custom lighting pieces, a lighting control system which was integrated into the building automated control system and conduit for a roof top solar system. The main entrance included a solar system model, which included a custom-made sun fixture that changed colors depending on the amount of solar power being provided to the building. The overall project was certified as a LEED Gold building.
