Dumbarton Oaks

The Dumbarton Oaks Greenhouse Renovation project marks FBH’s return to the Georgetown site after 19 years. In 2004, FBH constructed a new five-story library and renovated four buildings, including the greenhouse on campus. This renovation was particularly complex, as the outer shell of the two-story greenhouse remained intact while both the ground and first-floor slabs were removed and replaced. Additionally, the greenhouse required a new feeder and upgraded power distribution throughout the facility.

Late in the project, FBH was tasked with installing a sophisticated control system to manage all aspects of greenhouse operations. This system integrates automated window operation, shade control, misting systems, and controls for mechanical equipment in each wing of the greenhouse. FBH successfully completed the installation, working closely with both the vendor and the end user to ensure a seamless commissioning process.
